This article takes a comprehensive approach to examining the concept of justice and its place in Islamic thought, particularly from the perspectives of Martyr Sadr and Ayatollah Khamenei. The research argues that justice goes beyond mere equality and means placing everything in its rightful position and giving everyone their due. Therefore, various types of justice, including distributive, corrective, formal, substantive, natural, positional, individual, and social justice, are examined to both approach the true meaning of justice and understand its different dimensions while distinguishing between them.
As a result of this examination, both Martyr Sadr and Ayatollah Khamenei emphasize the importance of justice as a fundamental principle in Islam, seeing it as the core of Islamic governance. Both thinkers consider social justice as a primary goal in an Islamic society. Martyr Sadr stresses public cooperation and social balance as two main pillars of social justice, while Ayatollah Khamenei emphasizes the importance of equality before the law and the elimination of discrimination. Despite these differences, it can be said that both thinkers recognize social justice as the foundation of Islamic governance and have made efforts to clarify the meaning and position of this concept in society and Islamic government.
