The Hague Agreement aims to provide an economic and to speed up the mechanism to the owners of industrial designs to acquire, maintain and manage the rights governing designs in the countries and intergovernmental organizations that are members of the Hague Union through the registration of the application of the international certification unit at the international office of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The Agreement seeks to unify the formal rules for registering industrial designs and eliminate unnecessary processes in the member countries without making changes in the substantive regulations of the members (Article 2 of the 1999 version of the Hague Agreement). By registering an application and completing international and national procedures, IP rights are granted to the owner of the industrial design in each member country. International applications can include over 100 designs, as long as they belong to the same group of the Locarno International Classification. This article utilizes a descriptive-analytical method to examine and analyze the terms and conditions of international industrial design registration in the Hague system. It also explores the benefits of the Iranian government joining the Hague system, such as simplified and streamlined registration procedures for Iranian industrial design owners who wish to protect their creations in other member countries. Individuals who hold citizenship, residence, permanent residence or commercial industrial location in one of the contracting members may deposit a design sample and file an international application. The ability to register multiple industrial designs through a single application that includes a sample plan reduces unnecessary costs and simplifies the registration process. This can be done directly through WIPO or indirectly through the Industrial Property Office. Additionally, there are discounts available on registration fees for less developed countries, making it more accessible for individuals in these regions to protect their intellectual property.
